E-mail rate over the last 12 months. Out of 2521 e-mails, 1607 were exchanged between the editors and authors and reviewers. On average, 73 e-mails for each published article were exchanged. Several functionality improvements (FI) facilitated the online peer reviewing process. FI1 = e-mail archiving, FI2 = elimination of multiple notifications, FI3 = accepting articles online, FI4 = requesting revisions online.
